HEAVEN IS FOR REAL: book review

I discovered this book has been made into a film that is going to be in theaters around Easter. I hope it is true to the book and not “Hollywood-ized.”

I enjoyed the book very much and wrote this review a couple of years ago. I hope reading this will inspire you to either read the book or see the movie. It is an awesome story.

Imagine you and your family are going on a trip; you pass the hospital where a year ago your three-year-old son underwent surgery because of a life threatening illness. You ask him if he remembers being there and he answers, “That’s where the angels sang to me.”

Todd Burpo had that experience and wrote a book about it, Heaven is for Real. It is an amazing story about the experiences and sights his son Colton had while visiting heaven during surgery. Little by little, the story unfolds as Colton reveals what he saw. He talks about sitting on the lap of Jesus and having angels sing to him. He tells of meeting his grandfather, who died when the author was six years old, and the sister his mom miscarried before his birth. There are details about heaven found in the bible, details not normally taught to a small child in Sunday school.

Heaven is For Real is a must read. Not only is it easy to read, it is entertaining and thought provoking. I’m not surprised it is a #1 New York Times Bestseller. I totally enjoyed it.

  1. I also hope the movie stays true to the book. It makes me happy, that in a time when it seems the US is trying to force Christians not to speak about their beliefs in public, that this movie would be release. I pray many people will go watch it!
